Grant Larson Productions is excited to introduce Horror weekend! Just a few days before Halloween Grant Larson Film Workshops in Erie PA will have 3 one day courses covering all things gruesome and gore about Cinematography, Production Design, and Special Effects Makeup! 

Rachel Jenkins is an American Make Up Artist and Licensed Esthetician residing in Los Angeles, CA. She has 10 years of professional experience in the makeup and film industry.

Glamour and Gore will provide hands-on training for silicone transfers, latex application, creating bruising, scrapes, and scars! She will also bring insightful information on product knowledge, sanitation in the department, the difference between theater, film, and street makeup application, blood types and what the are used for, working with green screen, and how to cover tattoos. 

Come prepared for a Q&A demonstrations and the opportunity to take your creations with you! 

ONE DAY Class 9:30 am to 6:30 pm with a one-hour lunch break.

Terrifying Techniques of Cinematography

Terrifying Techniques of Cinematography will go over all things Horror and Gore... along with thriller and suspense. Jeff will take you through the world of how camera movement, light choices, and lens choices will help push your scary movie from gorilla bummer to indie film magic! 

Jeffrey Peters will be teaching Terrifying Techniques of Cinematography! 

Jeff is a long time freelancer with Grant Larson Productions you may remember his work from Age of Kaos, Big Ideas Steam Videos, Hazy Ridge Farms, or Underground Railroad where he captured the terrifying journey aboard the freight train!

Production Design on a Boo-get!

For most Indie projects you'll find yourself having to apply the theory but cut corners on the budget! In Production Design on a Boo-get we will go over the basics of Art Department function and hierarchy, the tricks on saving money, how to build sets and source goods! Thinking fast, effectively and implementing multiple skills is always a must! Just because you only have a few hundred bucks doesn't mean you have to skim. Maybe you can't afford that wallpaper or get in studio goods but that doesn't mean the image is lost to just shooting a blank canvas!

Carly Larson will be teaching Intuitive Production Design on a Boo-get

Carly Larson is our very own CEO at GLP and Production Designer at our subsidiary company BLK&Ginger! Her experience stretches from anthropological studies to traditional furniture construction all the way through blacksmithing - plus her 10+ years of experience in Production Design and Set Construction for the film industry. She has a passion for telling stories through a visual medium.

We will also go over TOOLS what to have, what to use, and what you can get away without.

Intro to Costuming for Film & TV: From Script to Screen

Watch films just for the costumes? Daydream of seeing your name in the credits? An intensive 2 day workshop for the novice or beginner of what costuming for film and television entails, with tips, tricks and techniques not otherwise taught in school. This technical overview includes behind the scenes photos from the teacher's two decades in film, industry vendors & websites, set costuming and design tips with hands-on demonstrations. The seminar will concentrate on the logistics of the process, from start to finish, and end with a practical walk-through with student participation. A printed handout with lists and links will be provided in class, attendees must bring a notebook and pen.

This workshop runs from 9:00am until 6:00pm with a 1 hour lunch break. 

 

About the Instructor: Chantal Filson

Costume is Chantal's obsession, as well as her profession. She has costumed for film/television since 1998, and her love of historical costume has led her to become a contributing writer for yourwardrobeunlockd.com and a recurring guest teacher at Costume College. In this lighting and grip workshop we will be going over a range of lighting techniques, onset protocol, and the lighting and grip equipment itself.  You will be put through hands on exercises such as painting with light, commercial and product lighting, and lighting for narrative work. 

Bringing you this wealth of knowledge is Kevin Miller and Blake Farmer, two LA based Gaffers who's skill has rapidly injected them into the top tiers of the commercial and film world. 

This workshop runs from 9:00am until 6:00pm with an hour lunch break. Our instructors will be available to talk more in length after each day.

Camera Department Workshop for Aspiring 1st ACs, 2nd ACs and Utility

Grant Larson Studios’ camera department workshops are designed to help build a basic knowledge for camera assistants, operators and even aspiring directors of photography working with the latest digital cinema technology. This workshop covers the building and using of digital cinema cameras and accessories such as ALEXA, Red and Blackmagic cameras. By the end of the two days, attendees will have gained a comprehensive knowledge of these digital cinema cameras and the confidence to operate the cameras in a variety of production scenarios. 

The course will be taught by Jeff Peters and Ryan Guzdzial.

Jeff Peters is an LA-based cinematographer, who graduated from San Diego State as well as Full Sail University. Jeff has also participated in the teaching program at Full Sail. He shoots around the world and throughout the US and has logged over 70 film and television projects in the past 9 years.

Ryan Guzdzial started his career in film almost a decade ago after discovering a passion for the camera department. Ryan moved up the ranks quickly, from film loader to a first assistant camera position role. He has amassed an extraordinary credit list of studio features, agency commercials, and independent content. Ryan is proficient in both the film and digital mediums and has become the first choice for many award-winning Cinematographers. He has been a member of IATSE Local 600 for several years.
